Renowned director announces surprise sequel to award-winning film
The follow-up to the critically acclaimed drama will reunite the original cast for a story set 15 years later.
Oscar-winning director Sofia Moretti has shocked the film world by announcing a sequel to her 2022 masterpiece "The Last Library," a drama that swept the awards season and was widely considered a self-contained story. The sequel, titled "The Last Library: New Chapters," will reunite the original cast and pick up the story 15 years after the events of the first film.
Moretti, who has previously stated she would never make a sequel to any of her films, said the idea came to her during the pandemic. "I kept thinking about those characters, where they would be now, what the world would have done to them," she told an audience at the Venice Film Festival announcement.
Production Details
Filming is expected to begin in early 2027 at locations in Italy, France, and Argentina. The original stars - Emma Stone, Oscar Isaac, and Saoirse Ronan - have all confirmed their involvement.
