Renewable energy investments reach $500 billion worldwide
Solar and wind projects accounted for the bulk of new spending, with developing nations attracting record capital flows.
Global investment in renewable energy reached a record $500 billion in 2025, according to the International Energy Agency's annual report. Solar and wind power accounted for 82% of total investment, with utility-scale battery storage emerging as the fastest-growing segment at 67% year-on-year growth.
Developing nations attracted $180 billion in renewable energy investment, a 45% increase from the previous year. India, Brazil, and Indonesia led the growth, driven by falling technology costs and supportive government policies.
The Investment Landscape
China remained the world's largest investor in clean energy at $185 billion, followed by the European Union at $120 billion and the United States at $95 billion. Notably, investment in fossil fuel supply continued to decline for the third consecutive year, falling to $380 billion - still significant, but down 25% from its 2019 peak.
